Hi Guys,
Thank you for your replies.
The two photos above are of the convoy sold from Britain to Brescia in 1972.
I visited Brescia for a few days in 1996 & 1997 and took photographs of all the locomotives, I have put them on Flickr if you would like to have a look. my email address to search is:
marco40101@yahoo.comAlso have a look at this website:
https://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesel ... sels/italyIt asks many questions about the British railways shunting locomotives and mentions D2232. It is thought that for many years it has not been realised that it was D2231 that went to Italy !
The identity of the class 08 is a mystery too, it could be one of 18 locomotives ! It is thought it worked for Atillio Rossi and was sold to Recuperi SRL ?
The RCTS website has photos of this loco.
The locomotive at Terlizzi is a mystery as it has two air reservoir cylinders on each side instead of one on each side when in the UK - the same fitting as 03157 and 03164 had at Chiari, however the buffers are different also, they are not standard UK fittings and this makes me think this loco has been via IPE Locomotori at Verona - I will have to visit Terlizzi !
I have another missing locomotive that was believed to have been sold from the UK to Belgium for refurbishment then it was sold to an industrial user near Milan it was a large 0-6-0 class 14 650 hp Paxman engine numbered D9534. It was sold around 1976 along with D9505 to N.V.Sobermai, Maldegem. D9505 went to work at a sugar factory in North Belgium, I have photos of this loco in my Flickr albums. However no record, sightings or photographs have ever been seen of the loco that was supposed to have arrived in Milan ?
There are more questions than answers I'm afraid.
Thank you for telling me about the photorail site, I will start looking tonight !
Best wishes and good health !
